"Christmas is a time for fun!"

Hah!

Christmas is a time for gifts of handerchiefs and socks, ties and pens, bad perfume, bad chocolates, tasteless uncomfortable underwear and books you read last year. For toys that break before you get them out of the box, and toys that won't break no matter how much you want them to. And so on.

Christmas should be fun, but these days it often isn't.

These days it seems that there is so much more pressure involved. The shops start pushing it in September. You have to get exactly the right present and when there are more than two people involved this gets increasingly complicated.

We want to help.

We want to take as much of the chore out of the pre-Christmas shopping as possible. We want you to tell us what you want. Make a list of presents you would like, then browse lists from your family and friends to see what they want. Buy presents online. Forget tramping around streets that are so crowded you can't move. Forget sore feet, forget black clouds of frustration, misery and depression growing overhead.

Forget organising innumerable lists of presents for all your relatives and friends, juggling them so that you know who is going to buy what for whom, trying to make sure that your daughter doesn't get more than three Barbie's in one year, that your brother gets only one copy of the new Terry Pratchett novel (but does actually get one)....

On 9th September 2002 the wish-list.net site went live.

Originally inspired by Spike saying, "I'm not doing this next year," while referring to the chore of organising all the Christmas lists in our numerous, far flung and wide-ranging family it grew from a germ of an idea into this website.

What is it for?

Basically, it is for organising lists of presents.

Presents for you and from you.

How does it do it?

You register, log in, create a list.

Browse lists created by your friends and family.

Use the links in the lists to shop online and buy things for your friends and family.

Click on Register new user in the main menu, fill in the bits required, and presto.  There you go, sort of thing.....

We'll be adding functionality as and when it becomes available.  Check the 'version' link for notes on what's working and what's coming soon.
