The wish-list.net site has been updated with new functionality available.
Why not visit us and check it out.
Since we went live we haven't been resting on our laurels (or rhododendrons, or wherever else you may think wish-list fairies rest). We've been busy cataloguing feedback, updating the shopping links, fixing the odd stag beetles, earwigs and other bugs, and adding some rather clever new bits to the wish-list system.
We've set up this newsletter to keep people up to date with what's been happening on the site, and as this is the first one to be sent by email we've force sent it to everybody who has registered. However we don't want you to get annoyed with us, so you won't receive any more unless you log in and tick the box that says 'Tell me what's new' at the bottom of the 'my account' area.
As of the end of September we've adopted a wish fairy from the enchanted hollow. She now hangs around at the top of all the web pages you look at, and if you click on her (gently please, she's ticklish!) she gives you help with whatever it is you are trying to do. She spends most of her time being small and inconspicuous, but if you search the help area a little bit you can find her full size.
We've split the shopping for ideas section into categories because we now have so many links. You can choose the types of thing for which you want to shop, and we'll only show you those shops that sell them.
We used to have everybody's names and where they lived up there for the world to see just for the asking, but some people said they weren't too happy with that, so we've hidden you all.
Then of course we had a problem. How can your friends find you? So we set up a search engine which you can use to find your friends and family by name (and location if necessary).
This searching becomes rather tedious after a while, so for those of you with bigger families, we set up your list of friends and family so that you can use it to browse the wish-lists of people you specify. Add people to the friends and family list, and then access their lists quickly and easily from the friends and family area.
Then some other people said, "But I don't want the whole world to be allowed to view my list. I don't want everyone to know I collect cuddly toys at the age of 38, or that I want a signed picture of Rick Astley for my Birthday."
Oooh, you are a secretive lot, some of you! However, wish fairies are here to grant your wishes, so we made it possible for you to hide your wish-list from everybody except people you designate as friends and family. Just tick the box in the 'my account' area to make your wish list private.
Then of course we had another problem. (No rest for the wicked?) If you don't have access to someone's wish-list, but you need to view it, you need to be able to ask that someone to let you in. So we did that as well. The wish fairy will send an email to the owner of the private list you want to view, and they can let you see it by adding you to their list of friends and family.
We now have some advertisers in the space on the right, so it doesn't look so forlorn and empty, and we've hidden the 'no documents found' message that was popping up and upsetting people who didn't realise that it was only there to tell them they hadn't created any list items yet.
We've also just about finished the help documentation, so click on the fairy for information!
Phew! That's about it on the update front. We'll be adding more new stuff as time goes on.
Look out for printable lists so you can take a print out of your reserved items with you when you go tramping down Oxford street in the rain, Thank-you letters for after Christmas so you don't have to write down who bought you what on Christmas day and we'll get the reminders emails working as soon as we can.
See you on site!
