Well, here it is, another newsletter from the wish-list fairy!
Have you been good? Will you be getting the presents you want for Christmas? Well obviously YOU will, because you registered and put your list on www.wish-list.net for Santa to read! Well done, congratulations, and other such like expressions.
We've been good too, honest!
We've been working hard on keeping the shopping area up to date (more new links), fixing those rotten old cockroaches and other bugs, and generally updating the site ready for you all to play.
What's new? See below!
One of the first things you will notice is that the main menu has changed a little. Lists for your friends and family are now accessible from the main menu by clicking on the expand icon in the "Others' lists" area. This saves a fair bit of time when you are browsing your friends' lists.
We've also added a neat little feature to help you put in website addresses for your list items. Just click on the 'choose from list' icon beside the shop name in a list item, and then select the name of the shop from where your friends can buy the item in the pop-up dialogue. The wish-fairy will fill in both the shop name and their website address for you.
Joint presents are now clearly marked in the views so you can see which items are for more than one person.
The bit about us sending you emails when it's nearly time for your friend's birthday has been promised for a while now, but up until now we've been all mouth and no action.
That's all changed now. You will notice that the way you put dates like your birthday in to the system has changed - you can now enter as many dates as you like, previously there was a maximum limit of three. Birthdays and other special occasions now pop up in a new window, and with a little bit of luck, you will actually receive an email reminder of dates your friends and family have set!
We've also got deep link url's working now. "Yippee," we hear you say. "What are they when they're at home?" Well they let someone link directly to a document deep inside the system rather than having to come to the front page, and then play around with menus to find the specific item they want. The first place you will find these is when someone is requesting access to your private wish-list, but there will be more of them floating around in the future as they really are dead useful.
Bug fixes:
We had a wee bug-ette in the help window, making it the wrong size, but that's fixed.
We had a teeny tiny weeny bug in the confirmation process that happened when someone wanted permission to view someone else's private wish-list. When the list owner sent the requestor a confirmation email saying, "Yes, come on in", the wish-fairy got her addresses muddled and the message got sent to the list owner instead of the person asking to be let in! (Doh! or words to that effect.) That's all sorted now though.
There was also a problem with the javascript in the shopping window that wouldn't let users see the "-All-" category again after clicking somewhere else, but we fixed that too.
Other stuff still to come:
We really wanted to get these in on this release, but we didn't have time before December, so rather than give you something that doesn't fully work we decided to keep the following functions out of this new release and save them for later:
My To Dos - a shopping list that you can print out of items you have reserved but not bought yet. You can take this down Oxford street in the rain and watch it get covered in water, dirt and frustration.
My Thank Yous - a print out of who bought you what.
And lastly...
This release will most likely be the last one before Christmas is upon us, so the wish-list team would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for using the site, and to wish you the best of festive fun and good cheer through the coming panic.
We hope you are enjoying using wish-list.net and that it is bringing the pain of Christmas commercialism down to a bearable level for you!
Merry Christmas, and may you find the time to step back at some point and remember what it should really be about.
